Safety Advisor

About the Role:
A Site WHSEQ Advisor supports one or several projects to ensure meeting the Health, Safety, Environment and Quality requirements. The role also involves assisting the site teams and managers by implementing the client's system. The WHSEQ Advisor identifies and recognises hazards and non-conformances and seeks risk minimisation and mitigation whilst contributing to the improvement of the health, safety, environmental and Quality practices.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Implement WHSEQ systems and procedures on site
  • Maintain a sound working knowledge of company safety procedures, legislation and the project Management Plans
  • Promote safety awareness throughout the site workforce, provide ongoing support towards the maintenance of safe site conditions and respond immediately to make safe any unsafe conditions
  • Promote compliance to safety rules and procedures and respond immediately to any WHSEQ breaches
  • Ensure that all personnel working on the site have undergone the safety induction training
  • Assist the Site Supervisor as required in carrying out safety inspections, reporting safety performance data, conducting induction training and conducting daily pre-start and toolbox meetings where applicable.
  • Contribute to reviewing SWMS and JSEA's and monitor the full and proper implementation of agreed safe work methods
  • Provide support to the Project Management Team
  • Assist in compiling WHSEQ management plans
  • Assist in the establishment of Project Site Folders
  • Be responsible for coordinating Contract Pre-Start Up making sure all actions are closed out prior to the commencement of project
  • Provide proactive safety-focused construction solutions
  • Follow up on corrective actions relating to regulatory authority notices, audits, inspections, and incident/injury investigations
  • Provide First Aid treatment and ensure the proper care of injured persons
  • Provide accurate recording of incidents and injuries
  • Provide guidance of WHSEQ non-conformances rectifications
  • Other ad hoc duties as required.

Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum qualification of Certificate IV in OHS or currently be studying in this field
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Hold a current White Card
  • Hold a current Driver's License
  • Have a clean police record and ability to obtain DCSI and Defence clearance
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a site WHSEQ role
  • Experience in the construction industry
  • Experience in safety management systems
  • Knowledge in auditing and investigation are required
  • Ability to develop and deliver site WHSEQ training
  • Capable of conducting effective investigations
  • Competency in general suite of software (e.g., Microsoft professional suite), WHSEQ systems, and project management platforms (e.g., InEight, Aconex, Procore)
  • Capacity to manage high stress situations
  • Conflict resolution skills
  • Have a good understanding of Australian Standards (AS)
  • Excellent communication and numeracy skills
