Temporary position anticipated to extend until September 7, 2025, subject to the availability of work
Required to provide support on London ACT 1 team.
The Parkwood Institute, Finch Family Mental Health Care Building is an organization that provides specialized mental health care to individuals living with mental illnesses on both an inpatient and outpatient basis. In addition to providing direct care to individuals living with mental illness, the organization is also actively involved in education of future clinicians and in advancing the research knowledge base. Our work is guided by a recovery-oriented philosophy of care as well as the utilization of treatment and rehabilitation interventions that are based on the best available evidence of their effectiveness to assist individuals in pursuing their life goals. We believe in supporting both the individual and their family/friends throughout their recovery journey.
As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, develop, coordinate and provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services, primarily in the community, for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. You will assess the client's individual status and needs, develop a treatment plan and in collaboration with all ACT Team clinicians provide or participate in the provision of core program services including comprehensive assessment, substance abuse treatment, structuring time and employment, activities of daily living, social and interpersonal relationships and leisure time, and support.
Essential Qualifications

  • Valid registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario
  • Knowledge of a Safety Culture in a Health Care Setting in compliance with the OHSA
  • Demonstrated knowledge of major mental illness from a biopsychosocial perspective
  • Knowledge, skills, and recent experience providing assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of individuals with serious mental illness
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in applying the principles of psychosocial rehabilitation and the practices of case management
  • Knowledge of psychotropic medications, symptom management, and community resources
  • Knowledge of the Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational, time management, critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Must be capable of establishing positive interpersonal relationships and able to work as an effective team member
  • Demonstrated experience using a patient-centered approach
  • Self directed, self motivated to accomplish specified outcomes
  • Demonstrated commitment to evidence-based practice
  • Knowledge of and ability to mobilize community resources
  • Experience in the development of teaching materials and the teaching of clients, family, and caregivers
  • Working knowledge and experience with theories and principles of guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches
  • Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
  • Familiarity with outcome measurement related to clinical practice
  • Flexibility in adapting to varying caseload needs
  • Knowledge of computer systems (eg. workload measurement, Cerner, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook)
  • Travel within the catchment area is required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proficiency in French would be an asset
  • Assistive Devices Program (ADP) Authorizer
  • Crisis intervention skills Minimum of 2 years full time related experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • Experience in both hospital and community service delivery
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience in research communication and program evaluation
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and direct support personnel

Immunization Requirements
  • Provide documentation you have received two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine (primary series, boosters and/or XBB) OR one dose of XBB vaccine at least 14 days prior to the start date.
  • Provide vaccination records or proof of immunity against measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chicken pox)
  • Provide documentation of the Tuberculosis skin testing
