The successful candidate will provide patient care in both the Cardiac Anesthesia and the General Anesthesia Sections. Approximately 0.65 FTE will be spent on Cardiac Anesthesia assignments and 0.35 FTE will be spent on General Anesthesia assignments.  The ratio of cardiac and general assignments may be adjusted by mutual consent.

Cardiac Anesthesia assignments include providing care in the cardiac operating rooms, cardiac catheterization laboratory, cardiac preoperative assessment clinic, and for ward consultations. Cardiac anesthesiologists will also provide support for emergency transesophageal echocardiography and Extra-Corporeal Life Support procedures, as needed.

General Anesthesia assignments include providing care in the non-cardiac operating rooms, acute pain consultation service, non-OR anesthesia services (e.g. endoscopy, diagnostic imaging), and obstetrical anesthesia.  There may be an opportunity to work at non-hospital surgical facilities, however this is negotiable depending on the needs of both the Cardiac and General Anesthesia Sections. The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the academic mission of the Cardiac Anesthesia Section, particularly in the areas of Quality Improvement and Quality Assurance. The applicant should have previous experience in QI/QA or be willing to obtain future training in this area. The applicant will be required to participate in Section and Zone-wide educational activities (in both presentation and audience roles) and may be asked to participate in simulation and team-training exercises. There is also an expectation of performing administrative responsibilities, as required.

Call commitment will be consistent with that of a 1.0 FTE for the hiring section within the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine Section.  The split between cardiac call and general anesthesia call will be full cardiac call and pro-rata general anesthesia call based on the general anesthesia FTE.

Members are required to adhere to Section holiday and time off scheduling practices. All applicants are to familiarize themselves with the AHS Medical Staff Bylaws, and applicable hiring section policies.

A standard position in the division will be a 1.0 FTE. The starting date for this position will be on September 1, 2024 (by negotiation). The successful applicant will join a collegial department who work cooperatively to facilitate work-life balance.

The candidate will be encouraged to follow good professional and collegial behavior including but not limited to CME, Undergraduate and Postgraduate education, administrative duties, teamwork and simulation. The aim is all members should contribute to or support the academic mission of the department. There are department policies for equitable allocation of work, on call duties and vacation time.
