Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, is inviting applications from Psychiatrists to take on the role of Psychiatrist at University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) in the Department of Addictions and Mental Health. 
Alberta Health Services is Canada’s largest and only province-wide health service provider, providing care for more than 3 million people.   Our multi-disciplinary teams consisting of psychiatry, nursing, psychology, occupational therapy, social work, dietetics, education, and with access to speech and language pathology, providing education and assistance for more than 1.4 million people in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region.


A psychiatrist is needed to compliment the ER team as part of strategies to address incredibly high EIP volumes, patient flow issues and pressures from the site to shorten Time to Consultation in ER. This position involves working with a dynamic interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary team within the UAH ER. The position provides psychiatric consultation and management of patients with various AMH related issues within the UAH ER. The psychiatrist will actively liaise with other hospitals, bed management, day hospital, ACCESS 24/7 and other community resources that will enhance patient care and optimize ER flow within Edmonton Zone. 


The ER team is currently in need of weekend coverage of the psychiatry ER – primarily in the daytime hours but for those interested, could include overnight call as well.  This position is listed as a 0.4 FTE (2 full workdays per weekend) but we would also welcome individuals who would consider providing a smaller FTEif that better suited their needs.


The Psychiatrist will also provide care to EIPs within UAH ER during regular working hours, participate in on-call for the AMH UAH site, participate in QI projects for the ER UAH and use EMR and AHS email. The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate medical students and/or resident physicians, and will be encouraged to apply for a Clinical Academic Colleague appointment, which will be considered through a process with the Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry (FOMD).


Remuneration will be based on fee-for-service billings submitted to Alberta 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have an MD and must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Psychiatry for licensure in the province of Alberta.
