Designated Manager

As the Designated Manager, you will have the responsibility, opportunity, and challenge of working with and leading an independent compounding pharmacy.


You will manage the operations of the pharmacy including, people, processes, customer service inventory, and financial operations.


Report directly to the Vice President, you will support the oversight, strategy, and overall activities of the pharmacy.


Job Responsibilities


  • Undertake all Designated Manager responsibilities established by the policies, guidelines & regulations of the Ontario College of Pharmacists as amended from time to time.
  • Ensure S.O.P. or policy and procedure requirements are incorporated into daily procedures and correctly followed by staff in the execution of all duties.
  • Establish, validate, and maintain quality assurance procedures, and records.
  • Perform day-to-day pharmacist duties including, but not limited to, counselling and consulting with patients and practitioners, checking prescriptions and other duties as required as a licensed pharmacist.
  • Support Vice President and management team in overall pharmacy operations as the Pharmacy Manager:
  • Supervise and manage the pharmacy team providing them with guidance, direction, and training, as necessary.
  • Support excellence in all areas of pharmacy operation from people to inventory, health & safety, and workflow.
  • Supervise all activities related to the dispensing of product to ensure that the pharmacy complies with provincial and federal regulations governing the practice of pharmacy.
  • Direct and prioritize the production process (workflow) in conjunction with department managers utilizing professional knowledge to recognize and meet critical customer needs.
  • Engage in or supervise drug preparation activities.
  • Oversee management of the facility including equipment and software necessary to successfully run the pharmacy. Drive excellence in customer service.
  • Ensure the appropriate processes are in place for patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • Drive service beyond expectations for patients of the pharmacy and ensure the team provides service excellence aligned with regulations and corporate standards.
  • Demonstrate leadership capabilities, by bringing energy, enthusiasm, passion, and effective communication skills as we strive to be recognized as the Canadian leader in pharmacy health care.


Skills and Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy
  • An active Pharmacy license in Ontario and are in good standing with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
  • >5 years of experience as a Pharmacy Manager/Designated Manager including experience in managing a lab/production facility
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Good time management, organizational and problem-solving skills and an attention to details
  • Exceptional leadership skills and the ability to coach, train and motivate your team.
  • Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work effectively within time constraints.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in order to deal with different customers and needs in in short periods of time.
