Experienced Emergency & ICU Nurse – 24/7 Flexibility:
Permanent Full Time or Part Time

Our state-of-the-art hospital is staffed with passionate Emergency & Critical Care specialists, registrars and experienced emergency veterinarians and vet nurses who are dedicated to providing the best patient outcomes to the animals we treat.
Working in ECC at VRH means you will also have the privilege of working alongside a large number of other specialist departments, including Internal Medicine, Oncology, Surgery, Anaesthesia, Diagnostic Imaging and Neurology as well as receiving support from our great Customer Service Team who manage all things front of house for us! The ECC department also has a dedicated Nursing Team Leader who will ensure you are constantly supported and comfortable in your role.
Position Overview
As an experienced vet nurse in the Emergency and Critical Care department you will have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of shifts and hands on tasks. This will include duties such as nursing and closely monitoring our critical patients in ICU, triaging incoming cases and assisting with a myriad of treatments and procedures within the ECC department. This role also requires applicants to be able to work out of hours and overnight shifts when required across 7 days – as ECC remains open 24/7 every day of the year.
Qualifications & Expectations
Cert IV or Bachelor’s qualification in Veterinary Nursing is required. Applicants with extra recognised qualifications in Emergency Nursing will be highly regarded:

  • Proven experience (3-5 years) nursing in an ECC/ICU department or equivalent setting.
  • Ability to multitask and change pace regularly as required (no two hours are the same!)
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills.
  • Excellent emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
  • A commitment to providing the highest standard of care to our patients and their owners.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as part of a 24/7 department.
  • Experience in monitoring anaesthetics and general surgical nursing.
  • Understanding of advanced nursing procedures such as blood transfusions, mechanical ventilation, central venous line care and CPR.
