Duties

  • The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Eye Clinic, located in the Hobart CBD, is well equipped, and a very supportive and friendly team to work with.
  • You will undertake clinical management in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team within the ophthalmic service and be involved in the examination, diagnosis and treatment of a wide variety of adult and paediatric patients, including patients with neurological, endocrine, refractive, and strabismus conditions.
  • You will play a pivotal role as the lead Orthoptist working independently and alongside Ophthalmologists, Ophthalmic nurses, and Allied Health Assistants.

The successful candidate will provide a senior level orthoptic clinical assessment and treatment to out-patients and referred in-patients. Duties will include assessment of paediatric and adult strabismus, triaging paediatric referrals, visual field testing, biometry assessment, OCT imaging and patient screening, and supporting a small team of tech staff in performance of visual fields, OCT, RFAs, photography, A scans, and screening of patients in readiness for doctors’ examinations.

The job will suit an Orthoptist with experience in paediatric and adult ocular motility. But also, a highly motivated Orthoptist looking to improve their ocular motility and strabismus knowledge and skills. Training and support will be provided for the right candidate making this a great opportunity for a more junior orthoptist interested in learning and looking to extend the scope of their current practice.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, full time, day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

$106,966 - $123,013 per annum + our Employer 11% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Professional Development Allowance of up to $1,000 per annum
  • Please note that access to salaries beyond $115,573 is subject to qualifications and/or application to the personal upgrade scheme.
  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement No.2 of 2022

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification/program of study approved by the Australian Orthoptic Board
  • Registered with the Australian Orthoptic Board
  • Current Working with Children Registration
