The Royal Hobart Hospital is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist (Gastroenterology) vacancy.
The Royal Hobart Hospital is the State’s tertiary referral centre and is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.

We are seeking motivated and experienced Staff Specialists in Gastroenterology. The position involves management of patients in General Gastroenterology, IBD, chronic liver disease, and both diagnostic and therapeutic Endoscopy.

This position will be attractive to a highly skilled and motivated medical professional who views challenges as opportunities and is driven by a passion to improve healthcare in the complex world of modern health systems. The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.

The successful candidates will provide specialist diagnosis, treatment, and care for public patients. They will provide a consultative service in Gastroenterology to other disciplines within the Department of Health.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight commencing from May 2024.

$210,000 - $301,349 per annum

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award.

Classification

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022.

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has it’s conditions altered.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  • Conviction checks in the following areas:
  • crimes of violence
  • sex related offences
  • serious drug offences
  • crimes involving dishonesty.
  • Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

Applicants should note the following requirements are desirable

  • Experience in assessment of motility disorders including oesophageal manometry/pH testing would be desirable but not essential.
  • Experience in Assessment and management of Liver diseases and/or IBD would be desirable but not essential.
