Harbison is a registered charity owned by the community of the Southern Highlands. Volunteers founded our organisation in the late 1950s to provide local, independent, high-quality care and accommodation for the aged and disabled in the Southern Highlands and surrounding areas. Today we provide general and specialised care across various settings and are one of the largest employers in the Southern Highlands. We exist to support and nurture older people to maintain meaning and purpose in their individual lives.

The Role

Seeking an experienced Occupational Therapist to optimise, improve and maintain independence, mobility, and function for Harbison residents. This role includes a combination of gerontological functional assessment, acute rehabilitation, and falls prevention management to meet clinical indicators to benefit the residents of Harbison.

In this role, you will be responsible for the following (but not limited to):

  • Complete a comprehensive assessment of all residents on admission and evaluate the need for interventions consistent with a person-centred approach.
  • Support residents in developing goals and apply suitable interventions to facilitate the achievement of goals.
  • Trial and prescribe equipment relevant to residents' needs and goals. Including but not limited to; mobility aids, seating, pressure area care, assistive devices, splints, braces and supports.
  • Work collaboratively with other multidisciplinary team members to achieve the best resident outcomes.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions using appropriate tools and outcome measures.
  • Identify areas for improvement and participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Maintain accurate resident documentation, including mobility assessments, pain assessments, fall reviews, treatment records and progress notes
  • Ensure detailed knowledge of AN-ACC, particularly in relation to the complex healthcare domain and the requirements of maintaining chronic pain management claims.
  • Maintain continual professional development requirements as per AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) registration.
  • Deliver education sessions for all employees as required, in terms of chronic and acute injuries and annual training requirements.
  • Provide tailored programs for Harbison residents to help retrain posture, strengthen muscles, and improve overall fitness.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and current registration with AHPRA.
  • A minimum of 2 years experience in a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrated skills in the planning and implementation of programs and activities.
  • Current knowledge of aged care and community funding model, accreditation and the aged care regulatory environment.
  • Knowledge and skills in clinical assessment, geriatric rehabilitation, and equipment prescription.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to adapt to change.
  • Ability to plan and implement innovative physiotherapy programs, including group exercise therapy and individualised treatment programs.
  • Strong communication, written, organisational and computer skills.
  • Hardworking, reliable and the ability to work in a team environment
  • The ability to take leadership, work under pressure, prioritise and multi-task
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ideally, you will have experience in the Aged Care sector and a working knowledge of the Aged Care Planning and Assessment process; however, this is not essential. We seek a strong customer service and care focus and a "can-do" attitude.
