Family Practitioner - Victoria Native Friendship Centre (Victoria PCN) 100-2083

Reference Number

100-2083

The Victoria Native Friendship Centre health team provides culturally safe, trauma-informed primary care services to Indigenous people living in southern Vancouver Island. Many of those accessing care are economically vulnerable, have complex medical needs, and face multiple barriers to accessing traditional means of primary care services. The primary care services will be delivered through onsite services at the Health Centre and by outreach services in the community.

The Victoria Native Friendship Health Centre family practice physicians work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary care health team; comprised of Nurse Practitioners, Registered Nurses, Indigenous Wellness Providers, and Mental Health and Substance Use Counsellors. Physicians provide Full Scope GP physician services to community members of all ages by providing care virtually or in person at the Health Clinic and in the community for 52 weeks per year, with care generally provided during the clinic’s normal weekday operating hours.

The physicians work collaboratively with the team and the VNFC for development and management of the schedule, including arranging coverage for any special circumstances, leaves or gaps in coverage.

Physicians provide primary care embedded within a large Indigenous social and cultural service organization. Medical practice is delivered collaboratively alongside Indigenous culture, teachings, and medicine.
