The Organisation

This 360-bed university teaching hospital provides a broad range of services in all specialty areas and serves as a referral centre to the whole Top End of the Northern Territory. The population serviced by the hospital is approx. 175,000 and many of the patients are from remote communities. This adds to the challenges, unique learning opportunities and ability to make a difference in the health outcomes of the community.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a busy clinical unit and provides a large range of services to a diverse population. Approx. 2000 births per year take place, with several hundred occurring at regional hospitals. High-risk pregnancies are common, with a higher proportion of women experiencing pre-term birth, gestational diabetes, renal disease and rheumatic heart disease than in other locations.


The Job
  • As Consultant Obstetrics and Gynaecology, you will provide a specialist Obstetrics and Gynaecology service to include the care of both inpatient and ambulatory patients
  • Key duties of the role include conducting regular inpatient ward rounds, outpatient sessions and theatre sessions, incorporating teaching, and providing specialist opinion to referring medical practitioners
  • You will have the opportunity to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate education, including vocational training and supervision
  • Participate in provision of specialist outreach Obstetrics and Gynaecology services to Regional Hospitals and regional and remote communities
  • Participate in an on-call roster to provide emergency after-hours care

Requirements
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FRANZCOG) or equivalent
