Role
This unionized role reports to a Director and leads the Greater Victoria Public Library’s (GVPL) Occupational Health and Safety programs to ensure compliance with WorkSafe BC requirements.
The role coordinates GVPL’s business continuity planning and is responsible for identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and monitoring risks associated with GVPL’s operations, encompassing emergency planning and safety and security of people and facilities.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring the well-being of its staff, patrons, volunteers, and service providers and in safeguarding GVPL’s operations.
Our ideal candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in occupational health and safety, security, law enforcement or criminal justice from an accredited post-secondary institution, and three or more years related experience in a comparable role.
Related experience includes developing and managing occupational health and safety programs, having responsibilities for risk or emergency management, interpreting and applying collective agreements, legislation and regulations pertaining to safety, security and risk management, and conducting workplace incident investigations.
