The OHS Advisor will be responsible for providing specialist OHS adviceand support to ensure that OHS compliance requirements and quality assurancestandards are met within the area. The OHS Advisor acts as a first contact forall OHS matters, injury management, and emergency management and facilitates andmaintains the OHS communications within the Hudson Institute. The OHS Advisorwill liaise and maintain working relationships with senior management, researchand professional staff and students to ensure consistent safe and compliantwork practices are met (where applicable).

The OHS Advisor will play apivotal role in shaping and enhancing OHS practices and systems within theorganization. This role offers the opportunity for a seasoned professional tocollaborate with stakeholders across the Institute, driving continuousimprovement and ensuring the implementation of best practices in occupationalhealth and safety.

The OHS Advisoris part of the Health and Safety team at the Hudson Institute and will reportto the Health and Safety Manager.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Education/ Qualifications

  • CertificateIV in Occupational Health and Safety and/or equivalent combination of relevantexperience and education/training.

Knowledge and skills

  • Demonstrated knowledge ofoccupational health and safety legislation, laboratory regulatory and statutoryrequirements.
  • Proven ability to proposepractical solutions to OHS issues considering legislation, standards andguidance materials.
  • Excellent written andcommunication skills with the ability to maintain close attention to detail.
  • Proven capacity toconsult effectively and ability to build rapport with a broad range of people.
  • Proven organisationalskills with the ability to balance competing demands, prioritise effectivelyand work to deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently,and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonalskills with the ability to interact with a broad range of people and maintainstrong, effective working relationships.
  • Highly developed computerliteracy, particularly using the Microsoft Office suite of applications,database/records management systems and web technology, including the abilityto learn and adopt new modes of communication and software packages asrequired.
  • Experience working withina university, hospital or medical research environment. Experience workingwithin a laboratory environment.
  • Certificate IV inWorkplace Training and Assessment, or equivalent experience in the developmentand delivery of training programs in a workplace environment.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT

This position is available in a Fulltime or Part time (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) capacity. Salary is based onScientific Support Group Tap 7. As a not-for-profit organization, employeeshave access to generous salary packaging options.
