Job overviewUniversity Hospital Southampton (UHS) Maternity Services are seeking band 6 midwives who are enthusiastic and committed to working in collaboration with women, their families and multi-disciplinary teams, supporting personalised choice and promoting exemplary care in line with national transformation ambitions and Trust Values.
UHS Maternity is a fast-paced progressive service with just over 5000 births every year and proudly received the rating of ‘Good’ from the CQC in May 2023. We are also a regional centre for fetal and maternal medicine providing specialist care for women with medical problems during pregnancy, and for those whose baby’s need extra care before or around birth.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

We have a wide range of clinical and non-clinical development opportunities, across all areas of our service, enabling our staff to explore multiple avenues of progression depending on their individual interests.
Your Responsibilities
• Promote a women centred service, which will ensure continuity of care, working autonomously to attend women during the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods
• The midwife will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, other agencies and user representatives.
• To engage with women and their families to encourage and promote woman centred care, normalising their experience as much as possible.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
The successful candidate will be required to have completed a band 5 preceptorship programme and possess the skills and attributes to work as a band 6 midwife. Key core skills to include:
• Excellent communication skills and a confident practitioner
• Competent clinical skills and able to work under pressure
• Understanding of clinical priorities and ability to work with the wider MDT
