Lake Mary Safety Technician

The Safety Technician under the direction of the Environmental, Safety, and Quality Manager is responsible for all activities assigned within the manufacturing facility and will ensure that the facility is in compliance with OSHA regulations and WestRock safety policies/guidelines, and to assist the Safety Manager in the implementation of environmental, quality, health, and safety programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following :

  • Coordinate first aid treatment to manufacturing plant employees.
  • As directed assist the Safety Manager, Plant Manager, Production team leaders during an incident investigation keeping confidentiality.
  • Provide safety training for new hires (hourly, salary, and onsite vendors), Safety Orientation for visitors, and Safety refresher training for veteran employees returning from an absence of ninety days or more within the manufacturing facility.
  • Work closely with Safety Manager to ensure safety training format is followed during employee training
  • Assist Safety Manager in providing general information to employees posting safety rules, posters, and other materials as required
  • As directed, assist Safety Manager with safety issues, concerns, and inspections that are safety related
  • Assist Safety Manager in preparing WestRock safety, quality, and training collateral materials for production supervisors
  • As directed assist Safety Manager prepare routine safety reports as required by WestRock Corporate and Divisional Management.
  • Assist Safety Manager by reviewing near misses/SOAR observations initiated by production supervisors and enter in tracking log
  • Safety committee responsibilities, prepare agenda, keep track of action item list, and attend the manufacturing safety committee meetings.
  • Assist Safety Manager with all safety program requirements and maintain supporting documentation within the manufacturing facility.
  • As directed, assist Safety Manager in data entry and maintenance of: Lock Out / Tag Out (LOTO), Safety Suggestions, electronic files, etc.
  • Assist Safety Manager in Risk Assessment Management System (Benchmark GenSuite) updating and entering safety information for injuries, workers comp and audits.
  • Help Safety Manager maintain air permit, required inspections, audits, monitoring and applications for renewal or modifications for local air permit.
  • Help Safety Manager maintain stormwater permit, SWPPP, audits, inspections, and monitoring per storm water requirements.
  • Help Safety Manager maintain SPCC plan, training, and records.
  • Assist Safety Manager, General Manager, and Plant Manager in special duties and projects as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the General Manager or Safety Manager.

Education and/or Experience :

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma
  • Bilingual English and Spanish a plus
  • Corporate culture based on integrity, respect, accountability, and excellence
  • Ability to multi-task activities and shift priorities
  • Effective at multi-tasking and managing multiple priorities
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills required
