Safety specialist; transportation

Aplin is currently recruiting on behalf of a transportation company on the search for a Safety Specialist. You will play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing our client's commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:
  • Compliance Oversight: Ensure strict adherence to all relevant provincial and federal regulations governing transportation safety.
  • Audits and Inspections: Conduct regular audits and inspections to assess compliance with safety standards. Take corrective action as necessary.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential safety hazards and implement proactive measures to mitigate risks. Conduct thorough investigations of incidents and accidents to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
  • Policy Development: Collaborate with leadership to develop and update safety policies and procedures to reflect changes in regulations and industry standards.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of safety-related activities. Prepare and submit reports to regulatory agencies as required.
  • Training and Education: Develop and conduct training programs to educate drivers on safety protocols and compliance requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in a similar role within the transportation industry, with a strong emphasis on fleet safety and compliance.
  • Class 1 license.
  • A Class 1 Instructor Certificate or LCV Instructor Certificate preferred - willing to obtain.
  • Transportation of Dangerous Goods Certificate.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Proficiency with computers.
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
