Health and Safety Advisor - Construction site

Type of position: Regular

Your future role on our team:
You’ll report to the PMO Health and Safety Manager and provide health and safety support and advice to the multidisciplinary team on site. You’ll also work with the project team to ensure current HSE rules and standards are applied and maintained. This position combines administrative work (from 20% to 30% of the time) and onsite presence (from 70% to 80% of the time).

An overview of mandates and responsibilities:
  • Be an HSE leader and be present regularly on site.
  • Help implement and update the HSE program.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly HSE statistical reports.
  • Carry out and document daily site inspections.
  • Assist in performing onsite internal audits.
  • Recommend measures to ensure worker health and safety.
  • Produce and follow up on corrective action notices, as required.
  • Attend site committee meetings.
  • Participate in daily start-of-shift meetings and weekly contractor tailgate meetings.
  • Coordinate onsite installation checks (scaffolding, mobile crane, etc.), where applicable.
  • Receive and manage events, then investigate, where necessary.
  • Provide basic HSE training and custom worksite HSE training.
  • Coordinate HSE training activities required on site.

Overview of job requirements:

A bachelor’s degree or college diploma in OHS, or equivalent (DCS in environment, occupational health and safety) or a certificate in OHS or industrial relations
At least two years of experience in a similar position
Experience in industrial or mining construction
Training experience
Proficient in French (spoken and written); English would be an asset
Strong ability to communicate and problem-solve
Strong analytical and organizational skills
ASPConstruction training
Asset: Good physical condition. Since this position requires constant site presence, you must be able to:

  • Work long hours on your feet and outdoors.
  • Climb up and down stairs, ladders, and ramps.
  • Work at heights (ladders, scaffolding, aerial work platforms, etc.).
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Wear respiratory protection, where required.
  • Work on uneven terrain.
  • Drive a vehicle (so hold a valid driver’s license).
