We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner in our MOBYSS Program!

Closing Date: May 10, 2024

Part-Time Contract: Until April 17, 2025, 28 Hours per Week, Evening Hours and Weekends may be required

Hourly Rate: $55.49--59.40 per annum *To commensurate with experience

Location: The successful candidate will work primarily on the MOBYSS vehicle and report out of our Newmarket office, located at 1101 Nicholson Rd, Unit 5, Newmarket, ON, and will be required to occasionally travel within York Region & South Simcoe for training, meetings, and client visits.

Job Profile:

The Mobile Youth Walk-In Clinic (MOBYSS) offers a safe space to talk to a medical or mental health professional in a warm, welcoming, and friendly environment. Our mobile walk-in clinic is staffed by a nurse practitioner, youth mental health worker, and peer support specialist. Our services are 100% free and confidential with staff who are caring and non-judgmental.Are you concerned about birth control, STDs or pregnancy? Feeling down, anxious or coping with drugs and alcohol? Maybe you have a sore throat or another injury. Whatever your concerns, we are here to help. Services are free and geared for youth aged 12 to 25.

The Nurse Practitioner provides general health screening and assistance with the primary health concerns of clients within the selected program, including the client’s mental and physical health, pregnancy or prenatal issues.

The Nurse Practitioner will determine the presence of existing and potential health problems, provide nursing care and treatment, including prescriptions and/or counselling interventions. The Nurse Practitioner will deal with these personally, or by referral to other CMHA programs, or through consultation with other health care providers and agencies/services.

The Nurse Practitioner monitors the ongoing therapy of clients by providing effective pharmacological, complementary, or counselling interventions, prescribes drugs included in the Schedules of the Regulations to treat diseases or disorders within the RN(EC) scope of practice.

The Nurse Practitioner may also function as an educator and consultant to staff, families, groups, legislators, and communities, as well as participate in developing policies and healthcare reforms, improving service quality, and practice evaluation.

In addition to compliance with all organizational policies and procedures, the incumbent is also expected to behave ethically, demonstrate competence in effective communication and team building, demonstrate effectiveness in working in a collaborative environment, and demonstrate confidence in decision-making and in building relationships.

Requirements:

• Council of Ontario University Program in Nursing Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program Certificate (or recognized equivalent)
• Member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;cannot be in the qualifying stages
• Four or more years experience as an RN, preferably working with Youth and or mental illness

•Driver’s License Abstract required, and a valid Canadian driver’s license, a minimum $1,000,000 third-party liability insurance
• Excellent health assessment skills, sound clinical judgment, and diagnostic skills
• Experience working with individuals experiencing serious mental illness, concurrent disorders, and dual diagnosis (developmental disability and/or traumatic brain injury) is preferred
• Familiarity with the administration, injection, side effects, and iatrogenic manifestations of psychotropic medications, especially the newer neuroleptics
• Knowledge of the Ontario Mental Health Act, mental health reform principles, the Substitute Decisions Act, the Health Care Consent Act, and PHIPA requirements
• Ability to apply Recovery principles and empowerment-oriented philosophies and practices in work with clients
• A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Screening (Police Check)
