Research Assistant 1 - Pre-Clinical Animal FacilityThe Pre-Clinical Animal Facility provides care to animals used by researchers at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. Basic to the success of the Neuroscience Program is the care and observation of research animals with respect to their health and welfare.
The Pre-Clinical Animal Facility is currently seeking a Research Assistant 1. The duties of this position include but are not limited to animal care, husbandry and health monitoring as well as cage wash and general cleaning duties. The Research Assistant I will work closely with team members to ensure the animals are healthy and happy and that researchers have a safe, pleasant, and clean environment in which to conduct experiments. The incumbent will support a workplace that embraces diversity, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements.
This position is located at 250 College Street.
The successful candidate will have completed secondary school and special courses related to laboratory animal health. Exposure to animal research or a veterinary environment would be considered an asset. Experience working with rats and mice in a research setting and experience in general wet lab procedures is preferred. Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills are required. The ability to work with a diverse team of staff, students and researchers with minimal supervision is essential. Bilingualism (French/English) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
Vaccines (COVID-19 and others) are a requirement of the job unless you have an exemption on a medical ground pursuant to the Ontario Human Rights Code.
