About the role
Patient Support Officers are responsible for providing a wide range of support services to clinical and non-clinical areas across the RBWH Herston campus. Primary duties include Infection Control Cleaning, Patient Transportation and Patient Handling within wards, operating theatres and clinics.
All successful candidates are initially employed as “on-call” casuals to meet RBWH's requirements to fill short notice absences and to provide holiday relief for our 400+ staff. Shift offerings are generally 6.00am – 2.00pm / 2.00pm – 10.00pm / 10.00pm – 6.00am, predominantly Monday to Friday over a 9- or 10-day fortnight. Some part-time shifts are available. RBWH operates 24/7 and thus some shifts will be offered on weekends and public holidays.
We endeavour to offer all casuals temporary contracts ranging from one week to one month and beyond for those who demonstrate their willingness to engage and complete their tasks to the standard expected in a health care environment.
New recruits are subject to a 3-month probationary period. Staff who meet expectations become eligible to have their casual status converted to permanent employment with Qld Health after 1 year.
The starting full-time base salary commences at $60,144 per annum with penalties and allowances increasing the total package. Many of our current casuals are being engaged for full-time hours on Temporary Contracts at the full-time rate.
