An opportunity has become available for a Senior Staff Specialist or Staff Specialist (Endoscopy / Gastroenterology) to join Gold Coast Health (GCH) where the focus of our 10,000-strong team is on providing world-class health care to people living in the Gold Coast, and northern New South Wales region of Australia.

About the role

Provide specialist clinical care to Gastroenterology and Endoscopy patients and clinically manage, on a day-to-day basis, the associated multidisciplinary patient care team to ensure the provision of appropriate patient care. In addition, provide professional leadership within a specialist medical area and provide training, education and supervision to junior medical staff and other health care members.

One of the advertised positions will focus on providing general Gastroenterology and Endoscopy services with an additional contribution to Inflammatory Bowel Disease services or Nutrition or Gastrointestinal (GI) physiology. The second position will focus largely on Endoscopy including endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) and endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) along with general Gastroenterology. Both positions will include working across our various facilities.

Requirements for the role

  • Evidence of vaccination, or be able to be vaccinated against - Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis and Hepatitis B.
  • Tuberculosis screening - to identify if the tuberculosis vaccination may be required.
  • Declaration of serious discipline history must be disclosed.
  • MBBS or equivalent registrable with the Medical Board of Australia plus FRACP or equivalent acceptable to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and registrable as a Gastroenterology and Hepatology specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Internationally trained candidates may require an acceptable Comparability Assessment undertaken by the appropriate Australian Specialist Medical College as part of the application process.
  • Relevant qualification/s and registration must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.
  • Evidence of participation in the National Colonoscopy Care Standard is mandatory.
  • Additional qualifications or evidence of formal training in IBD would be considered highly desirable.
  • Evidence of training in GI Physiology or Nutrition would be desirable.
  • Evidence of training in advanced endoscopy with the Conjoint Committee for the Recognition of Training in Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (CCRTGE) for ERCP/EUS or evidence of progression towards such certification prior to commencing employment is required if applying for the position involving the advanced endoscopy service.
  • Evidence of involvement in education and evidence of organizational or managerial skills would be desirable.
  • Evidence of involvement in research, teaching and scientific publications would be advantageous but not mandatory.
  • The incumbent will be required to participate in the departments after-hours roster for Gastroenterology, including after-hours emergency endoscopy.

Salary information

  • Permanent full time or Permanent part time
  • Estimated total remuneration up to $484,882 p.a., comprising:
    • Senior Staff Specialist: Base salary from $244,201 - $258,910 p.a or Base hourly rate from $117 - $124.05 p.h
    • Staff Specialist: Base salary from $204,206 - $237,196 p.a or Base hourly rate from $97.84 - $113.65 p.h
  • Up to 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
