Emergency Department - Consultant

We are recruiting for multiple Full-time and Part-time Emergency Department Consultants for a permanent vacancy in South Australia.

You will:

  • Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard in the Emergency department (telehealth involvement) 
  • Assist the Executive Director of Medical Services in planning and organising the delivery of clinical services 
  • Required to work with limited or no direction or supervision and to exercise a high degree of professional judgement and clinical competence in a multi-disciplinary setting. 
  • Responsible for the overall smooth day to day management of the clinical floor. Responding to hospital MET/Code Blue/Code Black calls as required by allocation on shift. 
  • Provide supervision, training and direction to more junior staff as required. 
  • Participate in teaching and quality assurance activities, and undertake health promotion and community education activities 
  • Initiate and support clinical improvement activities.

You will be based at one of the largest hospitals in rural South Australia and has been identified as one of the four general hospitals to provide treatment for Country people closer to home. It is committed to maintaining and improving the health and well-being of the people of South Australia.

Located near the Murray River, surrounded by national parks and nearby lake for water sports. It is surrounded by four other towns each with their own hospital. The city of offers a high level of services and facilities for both families and individuals. This includes a vast array of sporting and recreational facilities, sightseeing, tertiary education campuses, and primary and secondary Schools.

  • Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent. 
  • Appropriate Specialist Qualifications and registrable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner with Specialist registration; or another qualification as defined in the SA Medical Officers Award. 
  • At least five years relevant experience employed in a medical position in a community health centre, a primary care unit within a hospital or an emergency department of a general hospital.
  • Total Indicative Remuneration*: $359,094 - $608,483 p.a - MD2

*Total Indicative Remuneration (TIRP) includes:

  • Remote call allowance
  • Attraction and Retention Allowances
  • Superannuation.

New patient triage and ensuring all necessary results relevant to the consultation are present 3. Review and triage of incoming results 4. Answer enquiries from new and existing patients about clinical care and psychological concerns via phone or email 5. Cancer genetics assessment, counselling, and testing. (Cancer risk assessment for those who may be at elevated risk for breast cancer development- ongoing follow up or management of women at high-risk for breast cancer) 6. Post operative wound care and assessment of complications 7. Assist in ordering and interpreting imaging 8. Provide cancer survivorship assessments and plan 9. Generate referrals to other specialities based on the assessment of the multidisciplinary team and clinical need 10. Coordinate with hospital breast care nurses, preadmission clinic and other staff as appropriate, regarding pre and post operative patient issues Qualification & Experience Minimum 5 years experience as a nurse practitioner in the breast cancer field Proven experience in providing medical oncology and surgical oncology care to breast cancer patients.
