We are looking for multiple Correctional Health Senior Medical Practitioners for permanent vacancies across Victoria.

The Senior Medical Practitioner provides and supervises medical care to prisoners by delivering and evaluating medical programs and medical services required and/or provided. The SMP coordinates hours of service and on call responsibilities in consultation with the Health Services Manager and the Director, Medical Services.

Multiple full-time and part-time positions available across Metropolitan Victoria.

The health service operates in all Victorian Men’s Public Prisons providing primary healthcare services to the prisoner population.

Employing a multidisciplinary team of highly skilled healthcare professionals to ensure people in prison can access and receive the equivalent standard and range of healthcare services available in the broader community.

The health service works in close partnership with public, private and not for-profit providers to deliver the best possible healthcare outcomes for people in prison, with plans for ongoing post-release care and support in the community.

  • Medical practitioner currently registered by the Medical Board of Australia. 
  • Fellowship of the FRACGP highly desirable. 
  • A minimum of 5 years post-graduate experience. 
  • Experience in mental health, drug and alcohol and emergency care desirable.
  • Demonstrated competence in provision of high-quality care.
  • Ability to work within a correctional setting, which will involve direct contact associated with the delivery of healthcare.

To assist the surgeons and physicians in the practice with new and follow up patients by providing additional information and psychological support 2. New patient triage and ensuring all necessary results relevant to the consultation are present 3. Review and triage of incoming results 4. Answer enquiries from new and existing patients about clinical care and psychological concerns via phone or email 5. Cancer genetics assessment, counselling, and testing. (Cancer risk assessment for those who may be at elevated risk for breast cancer development- ongoing follow up or management of women at high-risk for breast cancer) 6. Post operative wound care and assessment of complications 7. Assist in ordering and interpreting imaging 8. Provide cancer survivorship assessments and plan 9. Generate referrals to other specialities based on the assessment of the multidisciplinary team and clinical need 10. Coordinate with hospital breast care nurses, preadmission clinic and other staff as appropriate, regarding pre and post operative patient issues Qualification & Experience Minimum 5 years experience as a nurse practitioner in the breast cancer field Proven experience in providing medical oncology and surgical oncology care to breast cancer patients.
