Position Summary

Central Highlands Rural Health are seeking applications for an experienced enthusiastic Sterilising (CSSD) instrument technician to work with our perioperative team in our newly purpose built operating theatre at our Daylesford campus.

The Daylesford Hospital operating theatre is scheduled to open July 2024 and will be operating sessions starting three days a week, expanding to five days within the first six months.

The newly refurbished, purpose built facility hosts a sterile stock storage area, recovery and CCSD operations providing state-of-the-art facilities to deliver best care.

General surgery scope of practice at Central Highlands Rural Health includes but is not limited to, colonoscopy and gastroscopy. Ophthalmology Services such as cataract extractions are performed in collaboration with Grampians Health Service. 

Role Statement
The position of the CSSD instrument technician is a part of the Theatre Team. The CSSD technician is responsible for the safe and appropriate use of equipment, routine maintenance and cleaning of theatre equipment and support and assistance to the perioperative team in theatre, endoscopy, post anaesthetic care unit and day surgery unit. 

Essential

  • Minimum Certificate III in Sterilisation or equivalent (Desirable  Certificate IV in Sterilisation or equivalent)
  • Sound understanding and knowledge of infection control requirements and Australian Sterilising Standard (AS/NZS4187)
  • Excellent team work skills with ability to work collaboratively within a busy team with changing priorities and work demands
  • Outstanding customer services skills with ability to build close working relationships within the CSSD team, the operating theatres and other key areas
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to use computer systems
  • High level of understanding of OHS, with good manual handling techniques and basic level chemical safety within the sterilising services
  • An understanding of and commitment to quality improvements
