The role 

Reporting to the Manager, Capital and Service Design Team, MHAOD Strategy and Planning Branch, the Senior Policy Officer contributes to and supports the development, implementation and management of the state-wide service planning, infrastructure and system redesign of mental health and alcohol and other drug services in Queensland, in alignment with national and state planning and strategic framework.

The successful person

The successful applicant will have strong writing skills and be experienced at preparing policy or planning materials for a range of audiences. Your communication skills will be exceptional, and you will have a demonstrated ability to negotiate with, and influence, stakeholders to achieve high-quality outcomes. You will have a proven track record in analysing and interpreting data and translating it into well-informed health planning, policy or strategy

The essential requirements for this role are:

  • Proven track record in critically analysing and interpreting data and information to underpin planning, policy and strategy development in health and other intersecting portfolios.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of projects, preferably in a social and/or health policy environment
  • Proven ability to develop high quality written materials and the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly, accurately, and confidently with various stakeholders.
  • Knowledge, or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire knowledge, of mental health, alcohol and other drugs issues and priorities at a national and state level.

Clinical Planning and Service Strategy (CPSS) is responsible for delivering clinical service strategy and planning, workforce strategy and planning and leadership, mental health strategy and planning and precision medicine and research functions to improve health services available to the Queensland community, optimise health gains, reduce inequalities, and maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of the health system.

The MHAOD Strategy and Planning Branch supports the delivery of contemporary, high quality MHAOD services in the State-funded system through state-wide planning, system strategy and redesign, development of evidence-based models of service and program implementation. It does this through partnerships and collaboration across the department, with Hospital and Health Services (HHSs), non-government and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sectors, state and national government agencies, peak bodies and people with lived experience of MHAOD.
