Job overview

UHBW are looking for a Clinical Teaching Fellow in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery. The successful candidate will spend around 70% of their time in clinical work including on-call, inpatient ward and theatre work at an appropriate level, and outpatient work. For the remainder of their time there will be the opportunity to develop their CVs in one or a combination of the following areas: education or research. This role would suit an individual who has Dental Core Training level experience and an interest in pursuing specialty training. This is a full-time post on a fixed term basis for 12 months, September 2024-September 2025

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will spend around 70% of their time in clinical work including on-call, inpatient ward and theatre work at an appropriate level, and outpatient work. For the remainder of their time there will be the opportunity to develop their CVs in one or a combination of the following areas: education or research. This role would suit an individual who has Dental Core Training level experience and an interest in pursuing specialty training.

The appointee/s will join the Oral and Maxillofacial team (OMFS) which consists of 8 consultants (OMFS and Oral Surgery), 3 specialty registrars,10 SAS grades and 7 DCT’s. The department provides local and regional OMFS services for adults and children. This includes specialist paediatric, cleft, orthognathic, trauma, surgical dermatology, and head and neck services. Responsibilities include admission and care of adult and paediatric emergency and elective OMFS patients.

Alongside patient care the appointee’s role will involve mentorship and teaching for the Dental Core Trainees. They would help co-ordinate the teaching curriculum/timetable and contribute to ward based teaching along with their contribution to the rota. The appointee will also contribute to the provision of OMFS Clinics as required. The appointee will participate in the on call rota alongside DCT’s at first tier level.

There will be opportunities to participate in clinical audit, research, teaching and service improvement projects.
