The successful candidate will participate in continuous shift scientific rostering at the Redcliffe laboratory, performing simple to complex investigations, in each of the disciplines for which the Laboratory is responsible in support of Redcliffe Hospital.

Key competencies (role specific criteria)

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:

  • A demonstrated level of knowledge, expertise and skills within a multi-skilled laboratory.
  • Availability to participate in a multidisciplinary team on a 24/7 continuous shift roster as required including weekends, public holidays, and extra shifts when necessary. Reliability and punctuality to ensure uninterrupted pathology service provision 24/7.
  • Well-developed communication skills and ability to contribute positively to a team environment while ensuring the delivery of a high-quality testing service.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide scientific advice and provision of results to laboratory staff and Hospital and Health Service clients
  • Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision.
  • Experience in the use of software systems including a Laboratory Information System (AUSLAB), Unity, a Quality Information System, Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
  • Awareness of procedures policies and regulations which impact on the position such as (but not limited to) the Queensland Health Code of Conduct, Workplace Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-discrimination

Qualifications, registrations and other requirements

  • The successful applicant will hold a relevant tertiary degree in Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science or an equivalent qualification in science from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
  • The successful applicant may be required to work shifts at the Redcliffe, The Prince Charles Hospital or Caboolture Pathology Queensland laboratories.
  • Please detail any visa conditions you may have if you are not a permanent resident of Australia.
  • We understand that some people may require adjustments to the workplace or the way the work is performed. All applicants are encouraged to advise the panel of any support or reasonable adjustments (i.e. building access, wheelchair access, interpreting services etc.) that may be required.

Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) requirements

  • It will be a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against one or more of the following vaccine preventable diseases during their employment: Hepatitis A & B, Measles, Mumps, Pertussis, Rubella and Varicella.
  • Additional vaccinations including Japanese Encephalitis and Rabies may also be required for this position.
  • Existing staff that are engaged prior to 1 July 2016 are not subject to this condition of employment unless they apply for a role with VPD requirements that is with a different Queensland Health entity (i.e. one HHS to another HHS, department to a HHS, or HHS to department).
