Geriatric Psychiatrist (300-0829)

The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry, Island Health, is seeking a full-time Geriatric Psychiatrist to join 2 others in Geography 1 (Comox Valley & Campbell River). The patient population the successful candidate will be providing services to is Geriatric, generally over 65 years of age but with psychiatric and/or cognitive challenges and indices of frailty. Clinical services provided include Consulting status for outpatients, psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, direct and indirect care, multidisciplinary team leadership and medico legal expertise as required by the BC Mental Health and Adult Guardianship Acts.The successful candidate will provide the following services: - Inpatient Psychiatry and Consult Liaison services to patients at Comox Valley Hospital (0.6 FTE) - Outpatient Practice with Geriatric Specialty Services (0.3 FTE) - Long Term Care Outreach (0.1 FTE) - Coverage as arranged with colleagues in Division, including covering inpatients when colleagues are away. - Participation in the Comox Valley Hospital ECT roster, currently 1 in 6 weeks.The Division is strongly committed to undergraduate and postgraduate education. Clinical faculty appointments are available for all geriatric psychiatrists through a joint application to the University of Victoria Island Medical Program and University of BC Faculty of Medicine. Opportunities exist to teach Medical Students, Family Practice and Psychiatry Residents. The Division enjoys collegial relationships with the Island Health geriatric medicine, adult psychiatry and hospitalist services. May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including (subject to change): Surrounded by majestic mountains, rushing rivers, lush rain forests and shimmering seas, this region is highly attractive to those seeking variety and a superb quality of life.
