Adult Retrieval Victoria (ARV) is part of Ambulance Victoria (AV) and provides state-wide clinical coordination, retrieval and critical care services for inter hospital transfers. ARV transfers have a high degree of complexity and include Major Trauma and ECMO transfers. ARV is currently seeking applications from Advanced Trainees / Senior Registrars or Fellows in Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia or Intensive Care who are interested in developing or furthering their skills in retrieval medicine. 

The positions on offer are full time, fixed term appointments for 6 months and with start dates in  February 2025, and August 2025

About the role

Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Respond as required to assist in the transport of critically ill patients between hospitals in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with the receiving unit at the destination hospital in regard to the patient's condition
  • Ensure that accurate and relevant patient documentation is recorded during the retrieval mission and that appropriate documentation relating to each retrieval is completed and returned to ARV in accordance with ARV policies and procedures
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with various stakeholders to assist in the delivery of a safe and seamless service to the community
    • Attend training, orientation courses, quality and staff meetings as required 

Located on base in Essendon Fields you will clinically support the ARV state-wide retrieval service. Taking direction from the Clinical Lead ARV, the primary role of these positions is to provide advanced clinical care during acute inter hospital transfer of critically ill patients. 

For applicants at Fellow level or established senior registrars, the position will also provide access to clinical governance activity, and to responsibility in the areas of quality improvement, training and education.

About you

Successful applicants will be legally qualified medical practitioners registered in Victoria, possessing appropriate medical qualifications (MBBS or equivalent) and will have completed or be currently completing advanced training with ACEM, ANZCA or CICM. Advanced trainees with ACCRM or RACGP may be considered on a case-by-case basis, as will applicants with relevant overseas training or experience. 

ARV is an innovative and progressive service and seeks capable staff to assume these positions of responsibility and leadership. Registrars/Fellows will experience a comprehensive education and induction process and achieve a high case load and competency in pre-hospital and retrieval medicine. We are accredited by ACEM for a 6 month advanced training post in prehospital and retrieval medicine.

These positions are highly sought after and provide trainees with a unique experience in a stimulating work environment. Our medical staff perform missions via road, fixed wing and helicopter platforms throughout Victoria and Interstate.

The salary range for the position is as per the  Doctors in Training (Victorian Public Health Sector) 2022-2026 and depending on years qualified.
