St Vincent’s is contracted by leading service providers MTC Broadspectrum to deliver health services to Parklea Correctional Centre – a major Sydney prison with capacity for 1,816 male inmates.

In 1838, when the Sisters of Charity who founded St Vincent’s arrived in Sydney from Ireland, they immediately went to the Parramatta Female Factory, where they made an important difference to the lives of hundreds of women convicts there. Similarly today, St Vincent’s Correctional Health aims to make a major difference by providing multidisciplinary healthcare to inmates at Parklea Correctional Complex.

What we are looking for:

St Vincent’s Correctional Health Sydney is seeking highly experienced and motivated Mental Health Registered Nurses with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our progressive and supportive team.

Roles and responsibilities:

As a Mental Health Registered Nurse (Correctional Health) you will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the custodial patient and the community. You will serve as a critical link to identifying the health care needs of the individual patient and promoting health and wellbeing.

You will be a highly experienced and motivated mental health nurse, with experience that has resulted in specialised skills being developed, specific to the management of individuals living with mental illness. The Mental Health Registered Nurse will play a vital role to ensure the custodial patient receives appropriate care from the time they enter into the care of SVCH, to their release and discharge plan. You will complete comprehensive mental health assessments for both acute and chronic mental health conditions using a framework of risk based, trauma focused, and patient centred care. .You will work within the multi-disciplinary mental health team, as well as alongside the primary health and drug and alcohol teams. The purpose of the role includes ensuring comprehensive mental health treatment planning and follow up occurs, with appropriate care planning and referrals within the complex environment of a custodial setting.

The successful applicant(s) will be expected to work a 7 days rotating roster .
