We are an established construction trades services provider that has grown over 15 years in the construction industry to serve high-profile clients on a wide variety of sites across Australia, with most work centred around the Sydney area. The WHS Senior Advisor position is an established role, and we are looking for someone with the right experience and skillset to jump right in. The company is undergoing rapid growth and the successful candidate will be able to grow with the company to more senior positions over time.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Senior WHS Advisor to join our team in our head office at Glendenning. This role provides quality advice and support to the Managing Director alongside a junior officer, enabling the director to manage the work health and safety performance of the business. The Senior WHS Advisor reports to the Managing Director and will work closely alongside the operations team. You will be required to:

  • Advise the director on leading safety initiatives the WHS team to coordinate priorities and deadlines.
  • Maintaining currency on all WHS, Health and related legislation that relates to the company’s operations. Strong experience with providing professional advice is essential.
  • Produce site-specific SWMS for a variety of building and rigging jobs. This can involve outlining work methods and risk assessments with the assistance of the senior operations staff.
  • Contribute to the review, development, and administration of well-being initiatives for the organisation to include risk management activities and projects.
  • Contribute to the review, development, and implementation of WHS policies, processes, procedures to ensure services and processes meet the needs of managers, to improve practice and meet compliance requirements.
  • Perform site risk assessments for all facilities and for occasional projects. This includes fire/emergency measures and management of mobile plant.
  • Learning new software/websites on a weekly basis to keep up with the changing induction and WHS file management requirements of our clients.
  • Assist HR with inducting new staff into the WHSMS and company procedures. Maintain records of staff skills, tickets, and personnel information.
  • Record injuries, assist with notifying relevant regulators/agencies, and with managing the return-to-work process.
  • Keep orderly files and share information with operations. Maintain a thorough record of SWMS, revisions, forms, client requests and all information that may relate to future risks or liabilities.
  • Respond promptly to client inquiries about WHS requirements for ongoing jobs and projects.

About You

We are looking for a person who is calm and focused, and who can settle comfortably into a pattern of work that fits the company well. We need a team member who can provide clear and appropriate advice to senior staff as well as practical WHS directions to the construction teams. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and enjoy the variety of our diverse projects.

To be successful in this role you will also have:

  • Basic knowledge of building trades with some background in building & construction, ideally including work at heights, confined spaces, mobile plant, cranes, demolition, and the basics of civil construction safety. 
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (especially Excel).
  • Ability to learn new systems and operating platforms.
  • Experience reading, understanding, and explaining legislation, technical documents, compliance paperwork and complex forms.
  • Highly organised with the ability to multi-task and prioritise within an office that works to a deadline and is often busy. 

Qualifications

We are looking for a person who can learn on the job, but also can demonstrate their competency with:

  • 1 or more years of experience in a senior role.
  • 3 or more years of experience in a WHS role.
  • WHS Cert IV minimum (additional related qualifications are desirable).
  • Some experience with construction terminology and processes
  • White card

The following qualifications are not required, but they would count in your favour:

  • Return to work qualifications.
  • Incident investigation training or certification
  • Electrical test and tag
  • Completed or partially completed Trades qualifications.
  • First Aid Certificate
