The Deputy Diabetes & Maternal Medicine Midwife will be working within the maternity diabetic service and antenatal clinic to support the management and care of women with pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes throughout their pregnancy and postnatal pathway and support the running of the antenatal clinic and Maternal Medicine service.

Main duties of the job

Undertake the role of the midwife including decision making, using evidence-based practice.

Offer support to the Maternal Medicine service which may include triaging high-risk patients and ensuring appropriate referrals are made to external Maternal Medicine centres.

Facilitate the effective assessment, implementation and evaluation of midwifery care for women with diabetes and other complex medical conditions, within own sphere of clinical practice.

Attend combined antenatal/diabetes clinic and act a resource for women and staff throughout the maternity services

Work in the antenatal clinic setting supporting the diabetic and screening services to support smooth running of outpatient areas

Support diabetic midwifery care and provide a comprehensive range of health education, psychological and social care advice to women in a hospital and community setting

To ensure the provision of a safe and high-quality diabetic midwifery service ensuring continuity of care in keeping with agreed pathways.

To work in partnership with the Lead midwife in planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of care in order to improve the health of individuals, their families and reduce health inequalities.
