About us:

Emerald Hospital is located 300kms west of the Queensland coastline. The population of the surrounding community is approximately 28,000 with 15,000 at Emerald. There are two small hospitals within 100kms, located at Blackwater and Springsure. Emerald Hospital is a 32-bed facility, has two operating theatres and approximately 160 staff delivering services across acute, community and primary care.

Our vision, outlined in our Destination 2030: Great Care for Central Queenslanders Strategy is for Emerald Hospital to be the Central Highlands hub for emergency, maternity, diagnostic and some surgical services.  We will invest in Telehealth technology to provide local access to services wherever possible.

About the role:

  • Provide ethical decision making in the achievement of organisational goals and comply with and utilise procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position.
  • Coordinate approved patient and staff travel and process travel claims in a timely manner, in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  • Provide advice to clients about booking options and arrange, coordinate and process accommodation, including amendments and non-standard accommodation requests as required.
  • Ability to gain the knowledge of Queensland Health's policy on the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme and the Health Service's duty of care obligations regarding patient transfers in order to negotiate and communicate policy decisions in a diverse cultural environment for clients with a wide range of acute and chronic health issues.
  • Accurately record and coordinate the Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme applications, claims, booking information and personal details into the Patient Travel database in a timely manner and in accordance with established procedures.

About you:

  • Knowledge or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge in relation to administrative and approval procedures in a travel environment including cost effective travel arrangements for patients and staff in accordance with Queensland Health policies and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated skills, or the ability to rapidly acquire skills, in the use of information systems and databases, including knowledge of accounts processing and compliance issues as they relate to staff and patient travel.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a professional service to patients and their relatives with understanding, emotional and practical support in times of stress.
  • Knowledge of or the ability to acquire knowledge of procedures, policies, regulations and standards which impact upon the position.

Salary information:

Total remuneration value of up to $94,810 p.a. is comprised of:

  • A hourly rate between $37.68 - $41.90 p.h.
  • 12.75% employer superannuation contribution
