Interviews are expected to be held between 20 May 2024 and 24 May 2024.
Where you'll be working
You will be based at ESMHS, located on the Prince of Wales Hospital campus and will be closely involved with the assessment and management of persons presenting to the ED:

  • Experiencing acute mental health symptoms
  • Experiencing co-morbid physical and mental health difficulties
  • In acute crisis situations requiring a mental health assessment

  • What you'll be doing
The vision for South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) is ‘exceptional care, healthier lives’. SESLHD is committed to enabling our community to be healthy and well, and to providing the best possible compassionate care when people need it.
The Clinical Nurse Consultant 2 (CNC2) will be responsible for being the clinical lead overseeing a team of CNC1s and will be required to perform primary mental health assessments for persons presenting to the Prince of Wales Emergency Department (ED) who are experiencing mental health issues.
The CNC, in partnership with the ED staff and relevant mental health staff will determine a plan of care for persons assessed which may be discharged back to the community with a clearly documented and communicated follow up plan or facilitate an admission to a mental health inpatient unit.
The CNC will primarily work Monday to Friday day shifts, however, there is an expectation that SESLHD employees are flexible and at times may be required to work alternate shift patterns.
The CNC2 will promote a mental health nursing service that fosters excellence in clinical, educational and professional leadership, both within the ED and the Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC) inpatient unit. The CNC2 contributes to quality health care by collaborating with health care providers, consumer groups and other community services by developing clinical practice and family orientated standards in emergency and acute mental health care.
The CNC2 will demonstrate a high knowledge of quality improvement principles, EEO and WH&S requirements.
There is a significant focus on research as ESMHS has close ties with the University of New South Wales. The CNC2 plays a pivotal role in the research field and will frequently lead and champion research projects. Data collection and analysis is also a significant part of the role which requires advanced IT skills, a high level of proficiency with Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel and Outlook and the ability to delegate appropriately to members of the CNC team.
As the leader of the CNC team, the CNC2 will demonstrate her/his capability through attitude, skills, behaviour and attributes, namely: broad nursing experience and knowledge including acute risk assessment and management; understanding and acceptance that patients are the central focus of service delivery; professional integrity; ethical conduct; accountability; advocacy; enabling others; cultivation of collaborative relationships and effective team work.
Although this role is primarily based in ED there is an expectation that SESLHD employees are flexible and at times may be required to work in other locations/wards according to Service needs.
