About the opportunity:

The Rescue Paramedic provides primary health and emergency medical services on site and emergency response activities. This role will focus on providing Medical and Rescue capability, monitoring patients, maintaining clinical and non-clinical consumables and response equipment. The role reports to the Emergency Response & Health Coordinator and who reports to Safety and Compliance Manager. This is a new role which will evolve over time.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinates emergency response activities which include firefighting, rope rescue, hazardous chemical response, first aid treatment, inspections, audits.
  • Work as part of a team to maintain consistency in training standards for ERT members.
  • Participate in the management of emergency response facilities, vehicles and equipment, ensuring they are kept to regulation standard.
  • Promotes health and safety awareness to site personnel and seeks continuous improvement of WHS standards, systems, and procedures.
  • Maintains emergency response plant and equipment to a high standard.
  • Ensure adherence to best practice HSE for Open Pit Iron Ore Mining.
  • Facilitate and participate in daily safety inspections and assist the Site Manager with safety audits.
  • Comply with, and promote, site standards with reference to standards, practices, goals and procedures.
  • Develop, implement, and facilitate all required training services as requested.
  • Maintain and foster a working environment which prompts safety in all that we do, whilst also providing outstanding service.
  • Complete reporting for all incidents and occurrences.
  • Support the sites Drug & Alcohol Testing and Fitness for Work practices in accordance with the current Policy.
  • Other duties as directed by line manager.
     
  • AHPRA Registration.
  • Degree in Paramedicine
  • Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue
  • Certificate IV in TAE
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving, lateral thinking and analytical skills.
  • HLTPAT005 - Collect specimens for drugs of abuse testing.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal with an ability to import knowledge, coach and mentor others.
  • Experience with operating on a remote site.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
  • Advanced First Aid
  • Low Voltage Rescue
  • Minimum 3 years in a similar role in Mining

Additional requirements:

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • Be site based on an 8/6 roster. 
  • Hold a full driver’s license.
  • This role may be required to work at other sites.

Pre-employment:

The successful candidate will be required to undertake a National Police Check, a pre-employment medical, drug and alcohol screening and other checks to work at a mine site.
