Registered Nurse - Allergy Immunology

About the Role

This role is a permanent part time position at up to 0.6 FTE within the Allergy Immunology Department. 

You will be responsible for providing education and performing Allergy and Immunology medical challenges, providing skin prick testing, spirometry, and immunotherapy within the day medical setting. 

You will work across two sites including:

  • The Northern Hospital:  One day a week - where you will support clinicians in clinic, provide patient education, skin prick testing and challenge services.
  • Allergy Challenge RCH : Up to two days a week - where you will provide care to patients who require allergy food and drug challenges, skin prick testing, spirometry, and immunotherapy. 

Classification: YP3 - YP9 

What you will Achieve

  • Undertake comprehensive holistic patient assessments and contribute to the development care planning, ensuring alignment with best practice and the individual needs of patients and families
  • Provide direct care and support to patients and families, including administering medications, performing procedures, and monitoring vital signs
  • Use critical thinking and analysis to plan evaluate and implement nursing care and undertake interventions that result in positive healthcare outcomes for the patient and their families
  • Recognise changes in consumers’ condition and take necessary action including reporting and escalation seeking appropriate assistance 

Your Skills and Experience

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered though the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (APHRA).
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP).
  • Employees are required to maintain compliance with RCHs “Staff Immunisation - Prevention of Vaccine Preventable Diseases” procedure.
  • Recent experience in an acute, medical, surgical, and/or speciality area of nursing
  • Paediatric experience (desirable, not required)

About the Department - Allergy and Immunology

Patients are referred to the Allergy and Immunology department for various appointments, including evaluation and treatment of allergic conditions including asthma, eczema, allergic rhinitis, food, insect, drug, latex allergies and immune disorders.
