Recreation Therapist - Downtown Central Clinic

The Complex Care & Recovery Program is currently seeking a full-time, permanent Recreation Therapist to work on the Downtown Central FACT Team. As a member of a community based inter-professional team, you will assist in developing, planning, facilitating, scheduling, organizing and implementing various therapeutic recreation programs. You will also be assigned a caseload as the primary case coordinator and as an associate case coordinator for a number of clients. You will be responsible for liaising with inpatient units regarding new referrals, developing, implementing and monitoring risk management plans, ensuring compliance with CTO’s, and develop, implement and evaluate the interdisciplinary plan of client care for clients. Your sound knowledge of community and CAMH-wide resources informs your discharge planning activities - particularly in addressing the client’s housing, income and aftercare needs. You will be able to work with clients from diverse populations; contribute to program development; provide education support and supervision to students, and participate in the research activities of the program. Your skills include the ability to make behavioral observations, mental status assessments, psychosocial interventions, documentation and ongoing communication with other team members. Workload data entry is a job requirement. You will have sound knowledge of forensic mental health, crisis intervention, addiction issues and severe and persistent mental illness. You will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork and complies with all applicable and regulatory requirements. Day, evening and weekend hours will be required. This position is located at 250 College Street, 7th Floor.

You must have a degree or diploma in Recreation or Recreation Therapy or a post graduate certificate in Recreation and good working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices combined with one-year experience working as a Recreationist. Membership in good standing and the eligibility for registration with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO) is considered an asset. Preference will be given to candidates who have clinical experience working with individuals who are experiencing mental illness in a community setting. You have demonstrated ability in developing, organizing, and implementing leisure/recreation activities, and assessing leisure interests and abilities. You will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to enable you to develop a professional therapeutic relationship with clients and work within a collaborative and diverse inter-professional team. You possess the ability to organize and supervise volunteers within the program. The incumbent must have the ability to run treatment-focused groups; access appropriate community supports; possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, and have the ability to work effectively with a culturally diverse and complex clientele. Computer literacy is required. Bilingualism (English/French) and/or proficiency in a second language would be an asset.
