The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is seeking a full-time permanent Environmental Health & Safety Specialist (EHS) to lead and develop programs and staff engagement to ensure all EHS requirements of the organization are met. The role will involve interacting with teams and guiding leaders in maturing the health safety and environment culture and ensuring regulatory compliance. The EHS Specialist will champion policy and program development, training, inspection, monitoring, and risk assessment initiatives to nurture an EHS environment of continuous improvement.

What you will do:Post Secondary education in Health & Safety or Environmental Management or related field is preferred.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in Operations Safety Manager roles.
CRST or CRSP Designation is an asset.
Class 5 Driver’s License.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with active listening skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment and highly proficient computer skills.
Must have knowledge of workplace safety systems.
Standard First Aid with AED.
Must have computer skills, including MS Office.
Working Conditions:Shift work, consisting of 8-hour shifts including weekends and statutory holidays.
Prolonged periods of exposure to the elements.
Extended periods of walking with some heavy lifting.
Extended periods sitting completing data entry. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
