The Service Assistant duties include:

  • Cleans instruments, patient equipment, exam beds, stretchers, and fridges
  • Wraps and pouches instruments to send to central sterilizing
  • Picks up linen carts, folds and distributes clean linen, ensures adequate supplies of linen, collects soiled linen from all units, and replaces bags in linen hampers
  • Stocks individual clinic rooms with linen, medical and surgical supplies
  • Distributes mail 
  • Ensures cleanliness of bathrooms and top-up supplies as required
  • Assists with transporting equipment, nutritional supplies, files and records to and from the main hospital
  • Receives supplies via courier for medical-surgical carts and direct orders, and distributes to the ordering office
  • Vacuuming of US filters and ceiling vents as required
  • High level disinfection of ultrasound probe
  • Collects and delivers patient specimen
  • Picks up medications from MSH pharmacy as required
  • Environmental room turnover and terminal clean
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Job Requirements
  • Successful completion of a high school diploma
  • Certification in Central Sterilization Course (CSAO) preferred
  • 1 year housekeeping experience (preferred)
  • Ability to take direction and work co-operatively in a fast paced team environment
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position in order to perform the essential duties of the job which requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, and lifting of patients/equipment for extended periods of time
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients/families/co-workers
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and read using English in order to effectively perform the essential requirements of this position
  • Ability to be flexible/adaptable in quickly changing work environment
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance history
