STATUS: Temporary; Full-Time – May 6 to August 30, 2024

SHIFT: 35 hours per week

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt

WAGE: $23.50 per hour

About the Position:

Reporting to the Manager, BC Pet Registry, the BC Pet Registry Program Assistant is responsible for interacting with Pet Registry clients to reunite lost pets with their owners and ensure database information is accurate and complete. This position is also responsible for assisting with Pet Registry events, building awareness about the program, and providing input into continuous improvement of the program.

Some specific duties:

  • Trace ID Response:
  • Promptly reply to trace ID emails and phone calls received in the BC Pet Registry inbox.
  • Facilitate swift communication with families to increase the chances of reuniting them with their pets.
  • Provide input into ways to streamline the trace ID response process and if approved, complete any associated tasks to assist with implementation, including collaborating with relevant teams to do so.
  • Incomplete Registration Support:
  • Communicate with pet owners to inform them about incomplete pet registrations.
  • Emphasize the importance of completing the registration process for effective pet tracking.
  • Provide guidance and support to owners to ensure seamless registration.
  • Regularly check in with pet owners and shelters to validate and correct email addresses.
  • Ensure owners receive login information to access their accounts and verify contact details.
  • Address any errors promptly to guarantee effective communication in case of lost pets.
  • Adoption Information Accuracy:
  • Oversee the seamless transfer of ownership for newly adopted pets in the registry.
  • Collaborate with BC SPCA Community Animal Centres to ensure accurate information about adopters is captured in the registry.
  • Information Sharing:
  • Develop engaging blog ideas and social media content to educate the public on the importance of microchipping and registering pets.
  • Share ideas, insight and brainstorm with the team to create impactful awareness campaigns.
  • Event Planning:
  • With guidance and approval from the BC Pet Registry team, plan and coordinate events to promote responsible pet ownership and microchipping and registration.
  • Collaborate with community partners, vendors, and sponsors for event success.
  • Execute logistics, including venue selection, scheduling, and marketing.
  • Monitor event outcomes and gather feedback for future improvements.
  • Inventory Management
  • Help to manage inventory of microchips and fulfill orders when needed.
  • Assist with other tasks as needed.

Qualifications you need to have:

  • Post-secondary level of education with interest in business administration, marketing, communications. Related experience includes, but is not limited to:
    • Database work
    • Customer service
  • Experience working in either the animal welfare sector or with responsible pet industry organizations is preferred
  • Excellent written and presentation skills; ability to respectfully relate to a diverse audience
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, meet priorities and to work within demanding work schedules with minimal supervision
  • Computer skills – Salesforce, WordPress, Shopify, Windows, MS Office incl. PowerPoint and Excel
  • Philosophic harmony with the mission, vision, and strategic direction of the BC SPCA
