About your opportunity:

Permanent full-time opportunity available at Townsville University Hospital.

Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.

The primary purpose of this position is to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients (their families and carers) accessing the Townsville Hospital Health Service receive effective, coordinated and culturally capable health care.

  • Liaises and negotiates with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and health professionals in the Townsville Hospital and Health Service for the development, planning and implementation of culturally capable Health Services.
  • Provide cultural consultancy to health professionals and staff and provides health education to the patients of the health services.
  • This position may, in response to fluctuations and variations in workloads between areas, be called upon to assist, on a time-limited ‘crisis-response' basis to the other Indigenous Hospital Liaison Officers in other areas within Townsville Hospital and Health Service.

  • Salary range of $2786.60 to $3586.30 p.f. (HWF3)
  • Annual leave with 17.5% loading

Requirements:

  • Under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander to work with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
  • Highly Desirable:
    • Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health.
    • Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.
  • This role is classified in accordance with the Phase 2 outcome provided under the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workforce (Queensland Health) Certified Agreement (No. 1) 2019. A Phase 3 process will occur to confirm the classification of the role. This process may result in changes to the role description, position title and classification and remuneration levels, however there will be no loss of employment conditions or remuneration for employees.
  • This is a Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPD) risk role: Hepatitis A/B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Pertussis.
  • Possession of class C drivers' licence.
  • Probation period may apply.
  • Pre-employment checks will be conducted.
