About the role

  • The Senior Laboratory Manager provides leadership to ensurethe provision of a high quality, efficient and cost-effectivescreening, and diagnostic biochemical genetics services, withinthe objectives and resources of the Directorate of Genetics& Molecular Pathology.
  • The Senior Laboratory Manager provides scientific andprofessional leadership to the staff of the department toensure that new technology and knowledge is translated intoscreening and diagnostic services, including participation inproblem definition, planning, execution, analysis and reportingrelevant developmental and research activities to improve bothscreening and diagnostic services.
  • The Senior Laboratory Manager provides leadership in theinitiation, promotion, implementation, and evaluation ofinnovative and relevant clinical research functions at thenational/international level.

Essential Requirements:

  • Current National Police Clearance (NPC)
  • Working With Children Check (DHS)
  • Immunisation screening as indicated in the roledescription. SA Health Services are required to implement theAddressing vaccine preventabledisease: Occupational assessment, screening and vaccinationpolicy in the workplace.

Educational/Vocational Qualifications:

The Requirements for Supervision in the Clinical Governance ofMedical Pathology Laboratories (Fifth Edition 2018) by theNational Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council (NPAAC), definesa scientist as a person with competence to perform the functionsrequired and who is authorised to perform these functions. Amedical scientist must possess one of the followingqualifications: 

  • A degree at Australian Qualifications Frameworklevel 7 awarded from a university in Australia with>70% of subjects relevant to the field of pathologyof a 3-year degree
  • A degree at Australian Qualifications Frameworklevel 7 with subjects relevant to the field ofpathology awarded by an overseas tertiary institutionif the qualification is assessed as equivalent to adegree accredited by the Australian Institute ofMedical Scientists
  • An associate qualification conferred by theAustralian Institute of Medical Technologists before 1December 1973 .
