About the Opportunity

Applications are invited for a part-time Laboratory Assistant to join their Bowen Hills Bowel Cancer Screening Laboratory, IFOBT.

The laboratory provides cancer screening analytical services to the Commonwealth Health Department National Bowel Cancer Screening Program.

The position is for a minimum of three shifts per week on a Monday, Thursday and Friday, with the flexibility to pick up other shifts when necessary to cover for staff absences due to leave or illness.

The laboratory currently operates between the hours of 07:30 - 17:00 Monday to Friday. Shifts will be rostered within the operating hours of the laboratory. However, an extension of hours outside of these time frames may be required commensurate with the workload. During busy periods, some Saturday and/or public holiday overtime may be required.

Duties will include the following:

  • Receipting into the LIS, preparation for analysis and storage of Bowel Cancer Screening specimens
  • Operation and management of automated instruments
  • Maintaining an organised and efficient work environment

The successful applicant will have:

  • Strong organisational skills and team focus
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Enthusiasm for taking on extra duties if required
  • Sound communication skills and understanding of computers
  • Proven commitment to the provision of quality internal and external customer service
  • Previous laboratory experience (preferred, not essential)
