What’s the job?

The Work Health and Safety Manager is responsible for management, planning and implementation of Work Health and Safety for our staff, throughout Torren Global Education and its related entities. The role acts as a consultant to all levels of staff, promoting Health and Safety, increasing awareness and ensuring compliance with legislation and safe workplace obligations. The role will report to our VP, People & Talent ANZ, Hugo Contente. As Australia's most rapidly expanding university, we seek a candidate with a proven track record in evaluating our existing Health and Safety framework, proposing necessary changes, and implementing the required adjustments.

Day-to-day accountabilities:
  • Partner with Business Units to provide advice and support to understand both their safe workplace obligations and the frameworks, tools and legislation to support them and their teams to mitigate physical and psychological risks
  • Manage work-related and non-work-related injuries end to end
  • Effectively manage Workers Compensation claims end to end
  • Manage the renewal of yearly premiums. This includes assessing reason for premium costs and making improvements in the cost of yearly premiums
  • Provide accurate and timely reports as required
  • Proactively measure safety reporting data to provide recommendations for improvements

Who you are?

To be successful in this position you will have:

  • Preferred to have qualifications related to Work Health and Safety and/or minimum of 6+ years’ experience in this specialist area
  • Required Return to Work Coordinator certificate for South Australia
  • A good understanding of Return to Work Coordination requirements across all relevant States
  • Demonstrated experience in applying the principles of WHS legislation, WHS Regulations and Codes of Practice
  • Experience in managing end to end work-related injury and case management
  • Demonstrated abilities in leading and managing projects related to Work Health and Safety
  • Demonstrated high level oral and written communication, interpersonal and consultation skills with the ability to build strong working relationships with stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work under broad supervision and to effectively self-manage the day to day workflow of the role
  • Excellent organisational skills and demonstrated ability to effectively manage time
