About the Opportunity

The primary purpose of the Principal Inspector (OccupationalHygienist) is to formulate and provide high-level advice and expertconsultancy to SafeWork SA on current and emerging workplacehazards with particular focus on occupational hygiene.

The Principal Inspector (Occupational Hygienist) contributes tothe management of SafeWork SA’s service delivery by providingmentoring, coaching and advisory support to team members. Theincumbent operates within a politically sensitive environment toaddress a range of complex organisational, operational and staffissues.

The Principal Inspector (Occupational Hygienist) will beresponsible for the identification and delivery of coordinatedhygiene based programs across a variety of industries within SouthAustralia. In addition, the role is responsible for providingspecialist advice and assistance to the delivery of state-wideintervention activities, and represent SWSA at a State and Nationallevel, within their area of professional expertise.

SafeWork SA is a business unit within Attorney-General’sDepartment and is responsible for providing work, health andsafety, public safety, and state-based industrial relationsservices across South Australia. As a regulator, our Investigatorsand Inspectors ensure work, health and safety, and public safetystandards are met, and appropriate action is taken when breaches oflaws are detected. We also help people better understand their workhealth and safety responsibilities.

Employment is dependent upon a National Police Certificateclearance that the AGD finds satisfactory. Must hold a current Australian issued driver’s licence(equivalent to minimum class C)

A relevant degree (e.g., health science, chemistry, occupationalhygiene, public health).
