Clinical Supervisor

The Clinical Supervisor will provide a critical link between hospital management/directors and clinical care, overseeing patient-care operations, assigning and monitoring staff nurses and identifying quality improvements. The Clinical Supervisor role is responsible for the healthcare teams and maintaining safe and smooth operations across Clinical Areas at West Haldimand General (WHGH).


Our Emergency Department, Inpatient Unit and OR departments are staffed with qualified and experienced nursing and medical staff. WHGH is equipped to meet the needs of the diverse population from multiple local towns and communities. For patients who require immediate transfer we have a helipad onsite to transport the patients for specialized care available at our regional partner hospitals. Staff have enhanced knowledge, experience and skills to provide care to people of all ages who require care.


WHGH’s team includes Nurses, Family Physicians, Pharmacists, Dietitian, MRTs, Ultrasound Technologists, MLTs, MLAs, Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy Assistants, Ward Clerks, and Volunteers.

DUTIES

1. Responsible for scheduling and day to day staffing and resource allocation, ensuring that the ED and IPU are fully staffed for optimal patient safety.

2. Provide leadership on the units and round regularly with the nursing teams.

3. Supervision of staff in the ED and IPU, including assisting with the preparation of staff evaluations.

4. Act as a resource to new staff, and provide orientation to their home unit.

5. Assist with discharge planning.

6. Support the flow of patients between the Emergency Department and the Inpatient Unit.

7. Assist with admission avoidance and act as a contact person for community supports.

8. Support and implement quality initiatives.

9. Assist staff with supplies and equipment.

10. Promote educational opportunities to staff.

11. Ensure that all staff work safely and in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act.


POSITION REQUIREMENTS

1. BScN

2. Current Certification of Competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse.

3. Leadership education/training would be an asset.

4. B.C.L.S. (Basic Cardiac Life Support)

5. Demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking and problem solving.

6. Commitment to delivering quality patient care.

7. Ability to work collaboratively across multiple departments, and build trust and consensus.

8. Strong communicator who is able to model open, respectful and clear communication with all. Able to facilitate a supportive, inclusive and collaborative team environment.

9. Safety (patient, worker & workplace) is a WHGH Corporate Priority. The successful applicant will demonstrate good stewardship in the identification, reporting and mitigation of unsafe acts or conditions.

10. Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills.
