The Bank's Work Health & Safety (WHS) focus is to provide a safe and healthy work environment for its staff. The Bank understands the importance of promoting a good WHS culture in achieving its business objectives, as well as meeting its responsibilities under the WHS legislation.This new role will be responsible for the management of WHS and hazardous material compliance for a major Sydney CBD construction project at the Bank’s Head Office and other workplace projects. You will manage and coordinate the Bank’s obligations to ensure compliance to WHS and environmental legislation and, working closely with the main contractor, implement best practice including governance, consultation and reporting, site management and training and development.Key objectives include:Establish and maintain governance and management procedures for the WHS and hazardous material compliance for the Head Office project and other workplace construction related projects.
Monitor and review the department's compliance with WHS and environmental legislative and regulatory requirements and internal controls.
Manage WHS related liaison between the Bank's project team, the builder and their hygienist, the Bank's WHS external adviser and other stakeholders to ensure appropriate practices are in place for the Head Office construction areas including management of external agencies (Comcare) and Bank related incidents. This will include risk assessments, Safety in Design and review of proposed construction work practices.
Manage the WHS requirements for Bank occupied areas within the Head Office building ensuring safety for access and operations and communicate with stakeholders. Provide advice on safe work practices and undertake regular checks to ensure compliance and assess risks on an ongoing basis.
Support WHS management of other Head Office related projects including relocation of critical infrastructure and archives, noting the specialised nature of these operations and associated risks for the selection of premises, construction (as required), relocation and on-going operations at the new premises.
Establish and maintain the department's WHS governance framework.
Develop and maintain the department's WHS and environmental protection best practice action plan, procedures and related documentation.
Establish department's consultation procedures and protocols and maintain regular reports on the status of the department's compliance.
Establish and maintain the department's specialist WHS and environmental training awareness program.
Establish and maintain the department's best practice procedures and protocols for site management.
Prepare papers for management on WHS issues.
To succeed in the role you must have:WHS Management and Environmental / Hazardous Materials Management qualifications.
Significant experience in implementing WHS systems in a professional or related environment.
Significant experience in building construction projects.
Knowledge of work health and safety policies and procedures.
Knowledge of Safety, Rehabilitation & Compensation Act and Work Health & Safety legislation.
