Description

In collaboration with, and under the direction of the Manager of Obstetrics, the Obstetrics Educator/ Team Lead will play an integral role in planning, implementing, evaluating, and providing evidence-based education and direction to the obstetrics healthcare team. The candidate will support staff by assisting with and allocating patient assignment.

The person in this position must have flexibility and promote harmony and teamwork. They will demonstrate competent clinical skills and will at times provide direct bedside care in the LWDH obstetrics setting. The successful incumbent must have knowledge of and experience working within the RN Scope of Practice in Obstetrics. The candidate will participate in the perinatal committee, accreditation activities, quality and risk management and initiatives. The candidate will assess and manage data related to obstetrics to identify trends and areas for quality improvement and guide project management.

They will ensure staff have the required education and training to succeed in the obstetrical environment. They will coordinate with staff to identify training needs, support ongoing training initiatives, orientation, and collaboration with community partners. The candidate will support and advance the goals of the SOGC, Northern Maternal Child Network, More OB, Newborn Screening, AHWONN and Public Health Initiatives and All Nations Health Partners.

They will collaborate on policy, procedure, documentation, and order set development for new and ongoing clinical practices to meet accreditation standards. The incumbent will support and promote patient and family-centered obstetrics service and provide culturally safe/appropriate care for the community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario, entitled to practice with no restrictions
  • Current membership in the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario an asset
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in maternity nursing
  • Experience in clinical teaching and coaching, mentorship with the ability to demonstrate knowledge of teaching/learning theory and principles of adult learning
  • Strong computer literacy
  • Experience in developing clinical education programs, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to perform effectively and efficiently under stressful situations
  • Demonstrated strong physical assessment skills
  • Ability to read and understand research and data in the health sciences
  • Current certification in BLS, BGM, IV Therapy, NRP, ALARM, ACORN, fetal monitoring, and lactation
  • Instructor status in following: FHS, NRP, lactation an asset
  • Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate and collaborate with physicians, hospital personnel and community programs
  • Current certification in WHMIS (within the last 12 months)
  • Reliable attendance record
