About the role:

This position stems from a significant investment in the expansion and development of our NET, Gastroenterology, and Hepatology services.

As a consultant in this role, you'll join the South Wales NET Service and Multidisciplinary Team, a European Centre of Excellence, and a frequent recipient of innovation awards. This unique opportunity allows you to impact a rapidly growing field while serving the increasing demand for neuroendocrine cancer, gastroenterology, and hepatology care, in partnership with colleagues throughout South Wales.

Suitable applicants should be competent (JAG accredited or equivalent) in diagnostic gastroscopy and colonoscopy and hold a CCT in Gastroenterology (and/or hepatology). Although some experience in NETs is desirable, applications from candidates with any luminal gastroenterology or hepatology experience are welcomed. Outside of NETs, we offer opportunities to branch out into a candidate’s areas of interest such as ERCP or other luminal or hepatology subspecialities. Moreover, dedicated time will be provided to learn about NETs through additional dedicated development time and a period of mentorship.

This new post will not contribute to the acute general medical intake. As part of the modernisation and consolidation of gastroenterology and hepatology services, the post will provide elective endoscopy, some out of hours emergency endoscopy and weekend cover as part of a rota with colleagues. It will also partially participate in a rota for inpatient care during weekdays. The successful candidate will join 20 other consultants in Gastroenterology/ Hepatology (16 luminal gastroenterology, 4 hepatology) in Cardiff with imminent plans to expand hepatology and luminal gastroenterology consultant numbers as part of a modernisation process.
