The role  
The Senior Policy Officer in the Mental Health Alcohol and other Drugs (MHAOD) Strategy and Planning Branch contributes to and supports the development, delivery and evaluation of system planning and strategic policy for MHAOD in collaboration with staff from across Queensland Health, and our non-government, private and intergovernmental partners. This in turn supports the successful implementation of Queensland Health led initiatives and priorities of Better Care Together: a plan for Queensland's state-funded mental health alcohol and other drug services to 2027 and Shifting Minds: Mental Health, Alcohol and Other Drugs Strategic Plan 2018-23.

Key responsibilities include:
•    Contribute to MHAOD planning, policy and strategic projects within a project management framework.
•    Support MHAOD planning, policy and strategic activities and priorities to achieve organisational and government objectives.
•    Develop and contribute to the preparation of timely, well researched briefing documents, submissions, correspondence, and reports.
•    Provide ethical decision-making in the achievement of organisational goals 

The successful person
You will have: 
•    Proven track record in critically analysing and interpreting data and information to underpin planning, policy and strategy development in health and other intersecting portfolios.
•    Demonstrated experience in the management of projects, preferably in a social and/or health policy environment.
•    Proven ability to develop high quality written materials and the ability to communicate and negotiate clearly, accurately, and confidently with various stakeholders.
•    Knowledge, or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire knowledge, of mental health, alcohol and other drugs issues and priorities at a national and state level.

The MHAOD Strategy and Planning Branch supports the delivery of contemporary, high quality MHAOD services in the State-funded system through state-wide planning, system strategy and redesign, development of evidence-based models of service and program implementation.
